Ranked Nigeria's Fastest-Improving State (2026 Phillips Consulting State Performance Momentum Index)

Enugu State, under Governor Peter Mbah, was ranked first among 33 assessed states in the 2026 Phillips Consulting State Performance Momentum Index (pSPI), posting the highest Momentum Score recorded, +1.15, ahead of Jigawa (+0.77) and Abia (+0.67). The Momentum Index measures how rapidly a state has improved relative to the national average since the last assessment, based on 37 governance and development indicators covering fiscal management and public service delivery.

National Identity Management Commission(NIMC)

National Identification Number (NIN) Enrolment Crosses 136 Million Under the New NIMC Act 2026

NIMC announced that enrolment into the National Identity Database (NIDB) has surpassed 136 million Nigerians and legal residents, an increase of more than 12 million since the 123.9 million figure recorded in October 2025. The milestone coincides with the commencement of the NIMC Act 2026, signed by President Bola Tinubu, which repeals the 2007 NIMC Act and establishes the NIN as the country's foundational identity credential under a "one person, one identity" policy, while positioning NIMC as the root certificate authority for Nigeria's digital identity infrastructure.
